A Police officer who was pursuing security studies at Mzuzu University is reported dead after being hit by a motor cycle in Mzuzu.
The police officer has been identified as Haward Chifunda who was discharging his duties at Mzimba Police Station.
According to the police report, Chifunda met his fate on Wednesday evening just after passing the slope Shoprite roundabout.
“On 16/05/18 around 16:45hrs he travelled on his bicycle from Mzuni to Katoto sec xool where he attended referees meeting and they finished around 18:35 hrs. Then he started his way back to xool (Mzuni) using pedal bicycle while descending a gentle slope from Shoprite roundabout and as he was about to pass junction road which joins M1 after exiting Mzuzu deport was hit by a motor cycle which was coming from deport side.
“Due to force he fell and crushed his head on road with a heavy thud and fainted. Well wishers took him to Mapale health centre while others reported the matter at Mzuzu police station where the vehicle was released which rushed him to Mzuzu Central Hospital,” read in part the police report.
The report further says that Chifunda was taken to Intensive care unit (ICU) where has been admitted to since Wednesday till Sunday night around 22:00 hours when he died.
