First Grade Magistrate Court on Monday convicted and sentenced a 26-year-old man to three years and nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

State Prosecutor Inspector Dovico Makawa said the accused, during the night of 16 to 17th May 2018 at Chinangwa Village, broke into the house of Frank Diverson and stole various household items valued at K101, 000.

Frank discovered the next morning that the front door of his house was wide open and some of his belongings were missing.

He reported the incident to Mwanza Police who instituted an investigation that led to the arrest of Madalitso Yakobe on the 18th of May.

Yakobe appeared before Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on Tuesday, the 21st of May, 2018 and pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary and theft.

“Your worship, a stiffer punishment to Madalitso is required so that it should deter other would-be-offenders,” said Makawa.

Although Madalitso asked for leniency, First Grade Magistrate Ranwell Mangazi, agreed with the prosecutor for a stiffer punishment and therefore, slapped Yakobe with three years for burglary and nine months for theft.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Madalitso Yakobe hails from Chinangwa Village, Traditional Authority Nthache in Mwanza.
