Nobody wants to be in their ex’s bad books, or seem immature, so oftentimes, you find people trying to play ‘mature’, and stay in touch with their ex after a break up. It is a very bad idea.

There’s nothing wrong with wishing them well. No one is saying you should despise them, that is not necessary, however, being very close can cause a lot of problems. Even if you have to be friends, be as far away as possible.

Here are some reasons you shouldn’t stay friends with an ex.

IT WILL HURT YOU

Can you imagine seeing someone you once loved often, and knowing you guys are no longer an item? Do you know how heartbreaking it can be to know you can’t do the things you once did together, and you can’t tell them things like before. You’ll probably see them with other people getting cozy. It will hurt you very much, and for that, I strongly advise against it.

IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO MOVE ON

I don’t say this just for one person, but for the two of you. Because break ups are rarely mutual, there’s the likelihood that one person never wanted it to end, therefore, they’ll continue to bug you with talk of wanting to reunite, and get back together. This also slows down your own progress, and makes it difficult for you to move on with your life.

IT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS IN YOUR NEW RELATIONSHIP

If you do get a new partner, friendship with your ex can ruin it for the two of you. This is because your partner would have to deal with seeing you get comfortable with someone you claim to have broken up with. Your partner is human; so it’s only natural they feel insecure about certain things. And there’s only so much they can take in.

IT’S UNNECESSARY, REALLY

For real, though, why stay close friends with your Ex, when you don’t have to? Like I said, you don’t have to hate them, but you don’t have to be close to them either. There are so many flaws to that arrangement.
