Police in Blantyre have arrested a 26-year-old British national for hitting to death a five year old Malawian girl at Kachere Township in Blantyre.
Limbe Police Public Relations Patrick Mussa identified the suspect as Khareel Malida and the deceased as Fortune Banda.
According to Mussa, the suspect was during the time of the incident driving a Toyota Axio with registration number RU 8286 from Limbe heading towards Mapanga area along the Limbe-Zomba road.
While passing Kachere trading centre, the driver was trying to overtake a truck and in the process he hit the deceased who was also crossing the road at the same time.
“The deceased sustained severe head injuries and fractures on both legs. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she died upon arrival, “said Mussa.
The driver is expected to appear in court to answer a charge of causing death due to reckless driving contrary to section 126 of Road Traffic Act.
