The Lilongwe senior resident magistrate court presided over by her worship Shyreen Yona today the 23rd day of May 2018 ordered Sinosky Company to reconstruct Chapatali Bridge of Dedza following the complete damage of the bridge by Thokozani Chimbwira the driver of Tipper belonging to the company.
The jam packed court held through state prosecutor Superintendent Patrick Chambuluka that the accused on or about the 9th day of May 2018 at Kalinyeke area. Along the earth road to Chapatali village in the district of Dedza willfully drove motor vehicle reg no LL 8289 Tipper recklessly without having regard to the safety of the bridge, along Chapatali earth road resulting to completely damaging the bridge.
Accused on the said date upon arrival at kalinyeke area Lilongwe- Dedza M1 road noticed that personnel from Road traffic safety services had mounted a weighbridge ahead of him. He then decided to dodge that weighbridge by using earth road which passes through Chapatali village. As he was crossing the bridge collapsed completely, the vehicle had carried quarry dust. Following the impact vehicles air tank got damaged.
Accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was being represented by Counsel Lawrence kapinda. Court upon satisfied with the evidence tendered found him guilty then later sentenced him to pay a fine of k30,000.00 Indi fault save 6months imprisonment with hard labour.
Court further ordered Sinosky Company to construct a new bridge within the period of 30 days. It further said that the office of Dedza District Assembly to be responsible for the supervision of the constructed bridge. The bridge is valued at MK40 million
