Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Francis Kasaila has accused the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of sponsoring the leadership wrangles rocking the ruling party under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

DPP is currently divided into two factions with the first camp supporting Mutharika while the other camp led by former first lady Callista Mutharika is supporting the country vice President Saulos Chilima.

The Chilima camp feels that Mutharika is too old to rule the country again and the camp is accusing people around Mutharika of having ill-motives.

Speaking in an interview with state-controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Kasaila who is also Minister of Sports said the party is very strong and MCP is wasting its energy by trying to bring confusion in the party.

Kasaila accused the Chilima camp of being greedy and angry for position to satisfy their personal interests.

The spokesperson said that DPP upholds democratic principles and has assured all its supporters that all issues surrounding the party will be solved amicably.
