While some corrupt African presidents are busy embezzling people’s money, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged to contribute half of his salary to charity.
Ramaphosa made the statement on Wednesday during his presidency Budget Vote in South Africa’s parliament that half of his pay will go to Nelson Mandela Foundation.
According to BusinessReportOnline, The president said the Nelson Mandela Foundation will direct the fund to small social projects scattered across South Africa.
The funds will be launched on 18th July to mark the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth.
“As we undertake this important work together, as we travel further along the path of growth and transformation, we are imbued with a new spirit. In truth, it is a spirit rekindled”, Ramaphosa said.
“In memory of Madiba, in recognition of the great sacrifices he made and his tireless commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable, We are looking for people with skills, time and commitment to ‘lend a hand’ to community-based projects”, the president added.
Ramaphosa took power from ex-president Jacob Zuma who was forced out of the office as he was linked to a number of corrupt activities.
The impending 2019 election in south Africa shall determine whether Ramaphosa will still continue to rule as the president or not.
