Member of Parliament for Mulanje West Constituency Patricia Kaliati who is also one of the members advocating for the country’s vice President Saulos Chilima has said President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is not from Lhomwe belt.
Kaliati said this on Thursday during media briefing held at Golden Peacock in the capital Lilongwe aimed at endorsing Chilima as Presidential hopeful in the forthcoming 2019 polls.
“We are here to nominate Saulos Chilima as DPP presidential candidate at the party’s convention. Chilima is a bonafide member of DPP. I hear some have been insinuating that he is not and that he was selling airtime, so what? Even David (King David) was from the Bush.
“This party is not for Lhomwe belt but for everyone. It’s unfortunate that the same people that were ridiculing the President’s green card are the same castigating Chilima. Where were they when we were being arrested? Even the president is not from Mulanje he is from Ntcheu and so too is Chilima,” said Kaliati.
Kaliati also trashed the remarks by President Mutharika that the pro-Chilima’s camp is planning to sale the party.
“People say #SKCCamp wants to sell the party, where? Where are we going to sell it to? #DPP is a national party, not only in the Lhomwe belt alone,” said Kaliati.
She also accused Mutharika of clinging to power, saying promised them to rule for one term only.
