Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters who endorsed the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima to be the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming 2019 polls in Mzuzu have disclosed plans to leave the party.
On Wednesday Chilima dropped a choker in the capital Lilongwe when he openly said he will soon leaving the ruling DPP.
Chilima also declared that he will not challenge President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at the party’s convention scheduled for this month.
Speaking in an interview with Times radio on Thursday Secretary for Chilima Movement in the Northern Region Peter Mkandawire said the movement is ready to follow Chilima.
“When people listened to the speech they were calling us, and they said they are impressed, and they have said they are ready to follow him wherever he goes,” Mkandawire was quoted as saying.
Mkandawire went further by saying people from various political parties continue to join the movement.
Meanwhile Chilima is yet to make his next political move.
