Minister of Education Science and Technology Bright Msaka on Thursday led thousands of Malawians Nantchengwa Primary School ground in paying last respect to four primary school pupils who died on Wednesday after the wall of a classroom block collapsed on them.
The four children whose lives have been nipped in the bud are 11-year-old Saidi Bonongwe from Sitima Village, 13-year-old Madalitso Nayuma from Mangulunje Village, 10-year-old Gift Mwanyada from Mankhwali Village and 10-year-old Tisunge Fransisco from Steven Village— all from T/A M’biza.
Speaking at the funeral Msaka who represented President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika said the tragedy is the wakeup call to the government.
“You should know that the construction of school blocks for learning lies with local councils. From now on, we will make sure that all school blocks are properly constructed,” Msaka said.
Earlier in the day, Msaka cheered the 15 Natchengwa Primary School learners who were admitted to Zomba Central Hospital following the Wednesday tragedy.
Msaka donated K10, 000 to the parent of each learner who is admitted to the referral facility. He also donated plastic buckets, soap, salt and sweets to the injured children.
