A Toyota Noah driver was left collapsed after another car which was being driven by Malawi police constable failed to brake down on the police roadblock and plunged into him along Salima-Lilongwe road.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Mr. Sackson Chipeya from Mtumodzi village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa district and the Constable as Flywell Kamanga aged 27 from Mponela police station.

According to reports, Constable Kamanga was driving his vehicle Toyota Sienta registration number SA3414 from Lilongwe to Salima with two passengers on board.

Upon arrival at Fandani village, he was stopped by a police officer on snap road block duties but he failed to brake due to speeding and plunged into Mr. Chipeya’s vehicle which was parked on the nearside verge for police check.

At the time, Mr. Chipeya was opening the driver’s door of his motor vehicle to proceed with his journey after his car got cleared up by traffic officers.

Following the impact, he was thrown to the front of his vehicle and collapsed afterwards.

He was then taken to Chankhungu health centre and referred to Dowa district Hospital after he sustained fracture on the left arm, head injuries and a waist injury.

His vehicle scratched on the driver’s door and detached offside fender while the constable’s vehicle had its head lamp broken, nearside view mirror broken, bonnet cover deformed on the nearside and fender broken on the nearside.
