The High Court in Lilongwe has declared bankrupt Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora Constituency Christopher Mzomera Ngwira for failure to pay a debt amounting to around MK62,000,000.
According to information at hand, in 2015 Ngwira bought vehicles from Tata Zambia Limited, Malawi branch, at a total cost of $75, 000, about MK52, 000,000 at the current value.
The money was not paid immediately. He was also meant to pay about MK7, 000,000 for the cost of spares and another MK3, 700,000 for vehicle repair costs.
The Company dragged Ngwira to court in 2016 where he was asked to pay the debit in monthly installments but he failed to honor the agreement.
Ngwira was then given a final chance to settle the whole amount in 21 days from May 3rd this year and he failed again.
The development forced the High Court in Lilongwe to declare the lawmaker bankrupt.
The bankruptcy order has since been sent to the Registrar General and the Speaker of the National Assembly, according to Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
