Police in Blantyre have arrested four men on suspicion that they stole 2.3 million worth of property and cash at Pamudzi Lodge in Blantyre.

Blantyre police publicist Augustus Nkhwazi has identified the four as James Maluwa, 24, Jafalie Helbert, 23, Khumbo Nazale, 22 and Daniel Mushanga aged 26.

According to Nkhwazi, on March 27, a group of five thugs armed with panga knives, clobbers and other weapons broke into the lodge and raided each and every room.

“In the process, Mr. Mulawu who had also lodged at the place and a businessman identified Piason Nangwale were hacked. The two sustained various degrees of injuries from the attack, “said Nkhwazi.

The criminals managed to go away with laptops, eight cellphones and money amounting to over K1, 500, 00.00 cash got robbed.

“Total value of the stolen property and cash robbed being K2, 323,000.00, “said Nkhwazi.

The matter was reported to Manase police unit and in the course of investigation, information reached the police that the thugs had been apprehended by Mulanje police in another robbery involving a businessman.

According to Nkhwazi, the four are believed to be dangerous criminals and are on Mozambican wanted list for murder charges.

Police only managed to recover a Samsung galaxy S7 out of all the stolen properties.

Meanwhile, the four will appear in court to answer charges of Robbery with Violence contrary to section 301 of the Penal Code and thereafter be referred back to Mulanje where they are also facing other charges.
