Police in Karonga have arrested a 38-year-old woman, Laisi Kachoka of Chidakwani Village in Traditional Authority Ngozi in Neno District for allegedly being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) contrary to Regulation 6(a) and Section 19(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect, Wednesday, Karonga Police Spokesperson, Enock Livason said police arrested Kachoka following a tip-off from members of the general public.
“We were informed that Kachoka was selling Indian hemp at her house within Mwanyesha residential area just within Karonga Township and upon searching her house, police found 14 cobs and 18 twists of Indian hemp,” said Livason.
“Currently, Kachoka is in Police custody at Karonga Police Station and she has been charged with the offence of being found in possession of Indian hemp without license or permit which is contrary to Regulation 6(a) as read with Section 19(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act,” said Livason.
Livason said the suspect will appear before the court of law soon.
