Police in Dowa district are keeping in custody two men for stealing a motorcycle worth K450, 000.00.
The suspects have been identified as Stande Yasini, 26 and Innocent Chisamba aged 23 who were altogether arrested on Sunday along Salima-Lilongwe tarmac road near Mvera church of Christ.
According to the complainant Mr Alick Dinala, on the said date he was riding the motorcycle from the direction of Lilongwe to Salima.
Upon arriving at Mvera church of Christ, he was stopped by the suspects asking for a lift since it was getting dark.
He accepted to offer both of them a lift but upon driving past Mvera church of Christ, one of the suspects grabbed Dinala’s neck and ordered him to stop the engine.
In the process, Dinala lost control of the bike and served to the other side of the road thereby him and the suspects sustaining minor injuries.
Following that, Dinala found a way to escape to report to a nearby police station. When the law enforcers arrived at the scene, they found the suspects already apprehended by other motorists who witnessed the whole drama in full view.
Meanwhile, the two are being kept in police custody as they wait to appear in court to answer charges accordingly.
Yasini hails from Yasini village in the area of traditional authority M’baluku in Mangochi while Chisamba comes from Madyela village in the area of traditional authority Chiwele in Dowa.
