As the day draws near for the much awaited convention for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2019 polls, party supporters in the Northern Region have endorsed Goodall Gondwe on the post of Vice President.
DPP is scheduled to hold its convention on July 1 to 3 at Comesa Hall in the commercial capital Blantyre, according the party’s Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey.
Since the announcement some top blasts in the party have announced interest to contest for various positions including that of vice President.
Minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa is set to challenge former minister of Agriculture George Chaponda for the position of vice-president for the Southern Region.
While in Central Region, former PP Acting President Uladi Mussa is set to face the incumbent Vice President Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba.
But the story is different in the Northern Region where DPP supporters have endorsed Goodall Gondwe who is also Minister of Finance and Economic Development.
According to one of the supporters who confided to Faceofmalawi reporter, Gondwe is the only candidate fit for such a position.
Effort to talk to Gondwe on the matter proved futile.
