Minister of Health and Population Atupele Muluzi has hailed a team of surgeons at newly constructed Mercy James Centre under Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) for successfully separating conjoined twins.
The operation took place on Thursday and it was led by Eric Borgestein, according to QECH Hospital Administrator Dr. Themba Mhango.
“Dr Borgestein and his pediatric surgical team have successfully separated the conjoined twins at Mercy James Centre #QECH. Operation went smoothly and the children are admitted in the Pediatric ICU,” said Mhango.
Writing on his official facebook page, Muluzi hailed the team.
“Many congratulations to Dr Borgestien and his team for successfully separating the conjoined twins with the support of the amazing team @Mercy James Centre #QECH_chipatala,” wrote Muluzi.
Mercy James Institute was built with funds from US pop star Madonna and was named after her 11-year-old daughter Mercy James she adopted from Malawi in 2009. It was opened on July 11 2017.
