A boy aged 10 has died and five other people have sustained various injuries after being hit by a minibus in Machinga district.

Machinga police station public relations officer Constable Davie Sulumba identified the boy as Anthony Kalinde and the driver as Medison Francis who was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number BT 1201 from Machinga heading to Liwonde.

According to Sulumba, the accident occurred upon the minibus’s arrival at Machinga Teachers Training Centre.

“Upon reaching at the said place, the driver hit a stationery minibus which forced the parked minibus to move and hit six pedestrians who were heading in the same direction,” he said.

Following that, the boy sustained serious injuries and died on the spot while other five pedestrians escaped with various injuries and were taken to Machinga district.

The deceased hailed from Maliwo village in the area of Traditional Authority Sitola in Machinga.
