Democratic Progressive Party Zomba Central Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament, Yunus Mussa, has withdrawn from contesting as Vice president for the Eastern Region.

Mussa was expected to challenge Minister of Education, Bright Msaka, on the position at the party’s elective convention slated for 1 July this year.

Mussa says he wants to concentrate on a parliamentary seat which he lost in 2014.

The development means Msaka will go unopposed at the much awaited convention which according to chairman of the convention, Nicholas Dausi, who is also Minister of Information and Communications Technology, says the convention will be competitive.

But this is not the case in the Southern Region where now it is a three horse race as Minister Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Joseph Mwanamvekha has expressed interest for the post.

Mwanamvekha will face Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa and the incumbent Vice President Dr. George Chaponda.

While in Central Region, Hetherwick Ntaba will face former People’s Party (PP) Acting President Uladi Mussa on the post of Vice President.
