It has been reported that the incident happened on Friday as the deceased, Pilirani Levison and his friend Madalitso Mataya, 25 cycled on separate bicycles all the way from Mozambique to Chimombo village in the area of traditional authority Mlonyeni in Mchinji for Malawian Kachasu.

According to Mchinji police station public relations officer Inspector Lubrino Kaitano, the two got totally drunk and decided to return back but they ended up sleeping along the Mtukwa – Mozambique Earth Road around the same area as they failed to cycle home due to drunkenness.

“Following morning, passerby community members found them sleeping a thing which prompted them to wake the strangers up but surprisingly they discovered that Levison had already taken his last breathe,” said the Mchinji police PRO.

A postmortem was conducted at Mchinji District Hospital where it revealed that the death was due to hypoglycemia as secondary to excessive drinking on an empty stomach.

Meanwhile, police is urging all beer takers to drink responsibly to avoid similar cases.
