The Forum for Peace and Justice has attacked Archbishop Thomas Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese for campaigning for the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima ahead of the 2019 tripartite election.

Msusa on Saturday called on Catholics to vote for vice president Saulos Chilima for president next year.

“Leaders of such caliber, who are visionary, wise and God fearing, if we have them in our family and church, why cannot we support them?” said Msusa in an indirect but clear reference to Dr. Chilima who has expressed intent to contest for the presidency.

In a statement released on Monday, Executive Director for the forum Sheikh Ali Makalani said such remarks can bring religious chaos in the country.

“We believe that he was right to advise congregants that a good leader should be visionary and God fearing but the extent of faith affiliation is misleading Malawians as a whole and his congregants in particular,” reads in part the statement.
