Chiefs in Nkhata-Bay have named the newly constructed Mzuzu-Nkhata-Bay Road after President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Senior Chief Mkumbira of Nkhata Bay disclosed this during the official opening ceremony attended by President Mutharika at Mpamba in the district.

“We have been waiting for this road for so long. Now that the road is finally here, I declare that it is Arthur Peter Mutharika Road,” he said.

In his response President Mutharika said he was honored with the Chief’s directive even though he, himself was ready to name the road after one of the great sons of Nkhata Bay.

“I accept the honour, but I will still name one of the projects here in the North after one of the brave sons of this land,” said Mutharika.

Germany contractor Zulin Strabag International constructed the road to the tune of K17 billion sourced from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
