Police in Mangochi district are keeping in custody three people in connection with the robbery and murder of a Greek business man identified as Harry Yiannikis which took place in May this year.
Mangochi police station spokesperson Rodrick Maida has confirmed of the arrests but did not give out the names of the suspects in fear of disrupting a further investigation into the matter.
He said the suspects were arrested on separate occasions after police followed up a tip given by well-wishers.
The 54-year-old farmer was on May 15th robbed off 14 million before being killed by unknown criminals at his estate in Mangochi.
The district’s deputy police spokesperson Amina Daudi earlier confirmed of the murder saying the thugs stormed the house of the deceased at night.
“After entering inside, the thugs demanded to have cash while assaulting the deceased. Later they went away with K14 million after they had hacked Mr. Yiannakis who was found with deep machete cuts all over his body,” Daudi reported.
The same day, the businessman was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where he died upon arrival
Meanwhile, Maida has hinted of forthcoming arrest of two people who are also involved in the murder of Yiannikis.
