Chikwawa police have on Friday arrested six criminals and also recovered a gun following a raid that they underwent.

Chikwawa Police Station, Public Relations Officer, Constable Foster Benjamin has identified the six as Paul Charle, 32, from Sorgin Village, Ernest George, 26, Osman Hamuza, 22, both from Nguluwe Village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Mbenje, Antony Paul, 23, of Tidzola Village in the area of T/A Nyachikadza, Sekereni Zeka, 28, of Chilanga Village in T/A Ndamera all in Nsanje District and Yasin James, 22, from Nzava Village in the area of Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikwawa District.

According to Benjamin, on Thursday night, the thugs stormed Kaunda Maguza’s house at Kamchewere Village under Senior Chief N’gabu and demanded cash sourced from the day’s sales at his grocery shop.

Benjamin said at the time, of incident, the thugs were armed with an AK 47 rifle replete with 4 live bullets and panga knives.

“The criminals went on beating Maguza and his wife in their foiled robbery, leading to the wife’s cries for help.

It is further said that the thugs took off as neighbours came out to the victims’ rescue,” said Benjamin

The police publicist, said officers from Ngabu Police Unit launched a manhunt and netted the six suspects before recovering an AK47 rifle, 4 live ammunitions, 2 empty cartridges and 3 panga knives.

Meanwhile, the six are expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of robbery with violence, contrary to Section 301 of the Penal code.
