Fire from a yet to be established source has gutted down a house in Salima, rendering a family of five homeless.
The blaze destroyed household items and however there was no loss of life.
According to an eye witness and owner of the house, Petrol Mwale, 31, the fire gutted the grass thatched house at Mtukulamwendo Village in the area of Senior Chief Kalonga in the district at round 12 noon on Monday.
“We do not know the cause of the fire, but it started from inside the house when everybody was outside,” he said.
Mwale explained that the fire spread quickly as it was fueled by the windy weather and the grass roof.
“We lost our food, a few household gadgets and utensils in the fire but we managed to rescue some including a bicycle and a bed,” he pointed out.
Mwale who operates a bicycle taxi business said he is devastated by the loss.
Meanwhile, member of the District Civil protection committee, Brino Kamanga is appealing to communities of Mtukulamwendo village to mobilize materials and resources to support Mwale and his family to help him re-establish himself.
