The missing of Roman Catholic priest’s gun at Nantipwiri Pastoral Centre in Limbe Township has led to arrest of the priest’s house boy and a cook.
Limbe Police Public Relation Officer Patrick Mussa has identified the cook as Steven Chibwe, 27 and the house boy as Hassan Mukota, 28 who connived to commit the offence as they were both working in the priest’s house.
According to Mussa, CID officers at Limbe police station received a tip that the suspects were offering for sale a 2.2 rifle.
“The officers launched an investigation and on Monday one of them was arrested at Misesa roadblock with the rifle and also the officers recovered eleven ammunitions,”said Mussa.
A further investigation carried on the same day led to arrest of the second suspect right at his work place.
The two have admitted to have stolen the gun with an intention of selling it and they have since been charged with theft, contravening section 278 of the penal code.
Mukota hails from Kalimbuka village in Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo district while Chibwe comes from Kudzikuzi village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe.
