President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is today celebrating 78th birthday amid calls from the general public that he should not seek second term of office.

The call was started by his in-law, Callista Mutharika who openly rejected his candidature in the forthcoming polls, saying his too old to rule the country again.

Callista then endorsed the state Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, saying he is the only hope the ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) and Malawi in general.

But Mutharika rejected this, saying he is strong and ready to rule the country for another five years.

Mutharika shares his birthday with anti-apartheid Nelson Mandela who died in 2013.

Mutharika was born on July 17, 1940.

Meanwhile the social media has been flooded with birthday wishes from his supporters.
