The President of the Republic of Malawi has arrived in the Zambian capital Lusaka for the 20th Summit of the COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit.
The Summit is being held under the theme: Towards Digital Economic Integration at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre
During the official opening ceremony to be underway shortly President will be among the seven Speakers. Others are President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of Zambia, outgoing COMESA SG Sindiso Ngwenya, Vera Songwe Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, President Uhuru Kenyetta of Kenya, Edouard Ngirente, Prime Minister of Rwanda and President Hery Rajaonarimampianina of Madagascar
President Mutharika is also expected to deliver a Keynote address later this afternoon titled: ” The next COMESA and the next generation.”
Later this afternoon also the chairperson of the authority President of Madagascar will announce the adminission to COMESA as a Member the Republic of Tunisia and the Federal Republic of Somalia bringing to 21 the COMESA member states
Later in the evening the Summit will witness the swearing in ceremony of the new Secretary General of COMESA who will have been appointed by the Authority earlier in the date. A panel chaired by Malawi interviewed five candidates.
