A man in Chitipa has been dragged to court to answer a case of attempted murder after he allegedly chopped off the hand of albino woman and fled with it.
The High Court sitting in Chitipa heard through State lawyer Waliko Kochi that on that fateful day, the victim Lucia Kainga and her husband were asleep in their house when they heard voice screaming outside as if someone was being attacked.
“The couple then woke up to see what was really going on outside their house. When they got out, the accused who was with three accomplices withdrew a weapon and hacked off the woman’s hand then fled with it,” Kochi told the court.
Kochi said the woman bled severely and her husband sustained injuries as he was trying to rescue his wife from the culprits.
They were taken to hospital where the woman spent several months on her sick bed. The court was also informed that the woman’s hand was not recovered.
On his part, Judge Thomson Ligowe said the state prosecution proved beyond doubts that the accused really committed the offence.
He admitted to say he had found the suspect with an attempted murder case to answer when the court meet again for a continuation of the case.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s other three accomplices are still at large.
