Police in Kasungu are keeping in custody a Chinese businessman for assaulting a Malawian worker in full view of people.
According to Kasungu Police spokesperson sub inspector Edna Mzingwitsa, the Chinese national launched a complaint to Kasungu police on Sunday claiming his manager could not account for money amounting to K2.4 million.
On Monday, a team of auditors was called to the businessman’ workplace for auditing.
While there, the Chinese national is reportedly to have assigned another employee to remove a bag of shoes which in the process some shoes fell off.
Following that, the Chinese national slapped the Malawian employee in full view of other employees, a development which led to commotion.
Angry sympathizers started stoning the shop and the vehicle belonging to the Chinese man prompting police to disperse the people with teargas.
Meanwhile, the Chinese national has been charged with an offence of common assault while the Malawian shop manager, Mwayi Chavula has also been arrested for theft by servant for failing to account for the missing K2.4 million.
