In Zimbabwe, the main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa is leading in the Presidential Election Results. According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission-ZEC officials, the young Chamisa of the MDC Alliance has so far polled 1,478,639 against ZANUPF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa is trailing with 1,105,652 votes. About 5,567,765 Zimbabweans registered to vote but only 3,664,764 are said to have voted representing 75% turn out.

However, the ZEC sources have warned that the results may change against the MDC because most of the votes verified are from urban centers where the opposition party commands a lot of support and most of those remaining are from rural areas where the ruling ZANUPF is thought to be dominating.

The verified results represents 56% of the votes from polling stations across Zimbabwe. The sources report that the MDC has done well in their traditionally urban strongholds while the rural Zimbabwe has overwhelmingly voted for the ruling party.

Nelson Chamisa was born 2 February 1978 while Emmerson Mnangagwa was born on 1942. Four of President Mnangagwa’s children are older than his main political challenger.
If he manages to win the elections, Nelson will be one of the youngest presidents not only in Africa but in the world at large.
