A kitchen at Dowa Hospital has been destroyed by fire which started around 1 am on Tuesday.
Dowa police spokesperson, Richard Kaponda said the hospital’s medical doctor Dr Peter Makoza reported the incident to police saying the fire started at about 00:45 on Tuesday.
“The night duty watchman told police that he saw smoke from the kitchen window indicating that the kitchen was on fire,” Kaponda said.
Following that, law enforcers from Dowa police and other hospital staffs that were on duty mobilized themselves and managed to put out the fire.
However, before it was put out the fire had already damaged large electric cooking pots, the ceiling and 23 window panes.
No injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire has not been established but police are investigating what started it.
