The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has cleared President Peter Mutharika of wrong doing in the infamous K145 million police-food-ration-scam.
ACB Director General Reyneck Matemba said this in an interview with one of the local daily papers in the country.
According to Matemba, the bureau’s investigation into the matter concludes that the president did not personally benefit from the money.
“Bank documents and other documents that we have, some of which were provided to us by the State President himself, clearly show that the ultimate beneficiary of the K145 million was the Democratic Progressive Party and not the State President,” he said.
The ACB’s report is in contrast with Mutharika’s remarks who admitted to have received the cash in a program aired on state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
Meanwhile Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have questioned ACB’s report.
