Driver of Interline Bus Services has died while 60 passengers have escaped with various degrees of injuries after a bus they were travelling in involved in road accident in the morning of August 14,2018 at Tenenthe area between Karonga-Chitipa road.
Karonga Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable George Mulewa confirmed of the accident in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter and identified the deceased as Leonard Scoti.
According to Mulewa, bus registration number MJ 5468 Scania Marcoporo was coming from Chitipa heading Karonga boma with Sixty (60) passengers on board having its carrying capacity of Ninty passengers.
“Upon arrival at the said place the driver failed to negotiate a left bend due to excessive speeding which resulted into overturn.
“The driver died on spot as Five sustained serious injuries while Fifty four others have minor injuries and been rushed to Karonga District Hospital,” said Mulewa.
Meanwhile Police is advising all road users to be extra observant when approaching that bend and reduce speed as the area has records of similar accidents.
