All is set for the much awaited convention for the Peoples Party (PP) scheduled for August 30 to 31 at Robins Park in the commercial capital Blantyre.
PP Spokesperson Noah Chimpeni confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
According to Chimpeni, former president Joyce Banda is the only sole candidate who has collected the nomination forms for the Presidency.
He said Banda’s main challenger Deputy Regional Secretary for the South, Leonard Mphiza is yet to collect the nomination forms.
“Her Excellency Joyce Banda is the only candidate who has shown interest to contest when we hold the convention this month. The other candidate, I think he pulled out,” said Chimpeni.
When contacted for comment Mphiza said he is still aspiring to contest for the post.
He said he has set aside K30million to finance his bid for the PP presidency as well as the state presidency should he defeat Joyce Banda at the convention.
