Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has condemned the burning of two vehicles belonging to United Transformation Movement (UTM) in Mangochi on Saturday, calling the police to investigate the matter.
Unknown thugs suspected of being from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) petrol bombed two vehicles of UTM on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
One of the vehicles petrol bombed belongs to Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Agnes Nyalonge who recently dumped the opposition Peoples Party (PP) and joined UTM under Dr. Saulos Chilima.
In a statement released on Sunday made available to faceofmalawi, Chakwera condemned the violence the act has no place in democracy.
“The Malawi Congress Party is saddened to note that such savagery still persists and is being tolerated in a country which should by now have been enjoying the tentacles of our democracy and well guided by the rule of law. This is because lawlessness and barbarism will only breed a dead nation ultimately.
“The Mangochi barbarity is a sad but clear sign that Malawi’s destiny is being eluded rapidly and our pursuit for meaningful democracy is but a fallacy,” said Chakwera.
He added: “No nation built on hate and mistrust can ever dream of development let alone transformation.
“It is only when we will fully embrace restraint, maturity, tolerance and love that we will move forward as one nation and get to where Malawi is meant to be.
“Otherwise these uncultured political ethics will only frustrate the very essence of being a democratic society while at the same time negate all efforts to create a better and prosperous Malawi.”
Chakwera has since appealed to all peace-loving Malawians to desist from vulgar language, hate speeches and deliberate promotion and or condoning of barbarism in whatever manner.
