The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has dropped charges against US citizen Manes Hale who was arrested at the Kamuzu International Airport as she was about to leave for her native country last week.
Hale was arrested for allegedly insulting President Peter Mutharika on social media, but some say the arrest was politically motivated as she is a vocal supporter of the United Transformation Movement (UTM).
A court document we have seen shows that Hale has been advised not to report for hearing on 6th September as indicated in her bail bond as the case has been discontinued.
