Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Allan Ngumuya has apologized to Malawians for obtaining court injunction against vote recounts by the Malawi Electoral Commission during the May 20, 2014 tripartite election.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the then ruling People’s Party (PP) under Dr. Joyce Banda accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of rigging the May 20, 2014 tripartite election and the two parties asked MEC to do a vote recounts.

But this did not please Ngumuya who obtained an injunction restraining MEC from recounting the votes.

Ngumuya who is also one of the leading members of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) , a group which is supporting Vice-President Saulos Chilima to contest in next year’s tripartite election offered an apology in an interview with Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ fm radio).

In an interview, Ngumuya asked Malawians to forgive him, saying the challenges Malawians are facing now is as a results of the injunction he obtained against vote recounts.

He said the injunction denied Malawians the rightful leader.
