Organisers of the September 7 2018 protests have postponed the demonstrations to September 21 to avoid clashes with ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets who will hold Blue Day, especially in Blantyre on the same day.
Chairperson of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Timothy Mtambo confirmed on Monday that the shift has been made in the interest of peace, unity and cooperation.
Blantyre City Council (BCC) gave the ruling DPP permission to hold its Blue Day in the City on Friday September 7, the same day the HRDC planned to hold anti-government protests.
One of the social commentators Humphrey Mvula has accused the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of practicing intolerance.
Mvula said holding Blue Day on the same day CSOs planned to hold demonstrations is sign of immaturity on the part of government.
Meanwhile Mvula has hailed the CSOs postponing the demonstrations.
