Police in Ntcheu have intensified search for their fellow officer who reportedly went missing after he was deployed to monitor voter registration exercise last month (August) at Mwansambe Primary School in Traditional Authority Mpando in the district.
Ntcheu Police Publicist, Hastings Chigalu has since asked the public to help in finding the missing cop identified as Felix Mapemba, 37, a criminal investigations officer at Ntcheu Police Station.
Chigalu said the law enforcer went missing on August 26, 2018 after he told his friends that he was going out to buy some things but never returned.
He said police officers in collaboration with Mapemba’s relations searched around the area to discover his whereabouts but were not successful.
“Indeed, our colleague, Felix Mapemba went missing on 26 August, 2018 after he just told his fellow officer that he wanted to buy some commodities, but never came back till now. As police, we are very concerned with the missing of the officer and we are still searching.
“Let me ask the general public to help the police in searching for the missing officer. We appreciate the relationship we have with people and we hope that they will help us. They should let us know by reporting to any police station or to local leaders,” said Chigalu.
The PRO said police investigations have shown that Mapemba did not withdraw his August salary and did not collect his allowances from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) which had contracted him to provide security at the voter registration centre.
