Police in Nkhotakota are hunting for a man who chopped off a right ear of his ex-wife’s fiancé.
Nkhunga police publicist, Ignatius Esau identified the suspect only as Phiri and the victim as Alex Mukona from Maone village in the area of traditional authority Nazombe in Phalombe.
Esau said on 11 September, Mukona visited the woman in Nkhotakota after the two fell in love on the phone after the woman mistakenly dialed Mukona’s phone number.
“Prior to the visit, the woman identified as Litness Ngwama assured her lovebird that she is single saying she divorced her husband some time back.
“On Thursday night as the two were fast asleep, the jealousy ex-husband broke into the house where the two were sleeping and assaulted both of them, “said Esau.
The victim found a chance to escape from the house but the angry ex-husband caught him. He tied the victim’s both hands and legs before cutting off his right ear with a sharp knife.
Some community members took him to a nearby hospital where he was treated as an outpatient .
Meanwhile, police have opened a case of causing grievous bodily harm which Phiri is to answer once apprehended.
