President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika leaves Friday for the 73rd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in the United States of America.
The trip crashes with the national wide protest organized by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the banner Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC).
The national wide protest by CSOs are scheduled to commence at 8am while President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to leave the country at 4pm through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe, according to the statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet seen by faceofmalawi reporter.
On the other hand, the CSOs want the President to receive the petition on behalf of the government and no one else.
The CSOs, among other issues, want government to address worsening corruption in the country and theft of fuel worth K 1.9 billion at Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).
The HRDC postponed the protests from September 7 2018 to September 21 to avoid clashes with governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets who were expected to hold what they called a Blue March in Blantyre on the same day, but did not.
