An 18-year-old man in Chikwawa district has been fined a total amount of K100,000 as a compensation to a man whom he forcibly circumcised.
Chikwawa Police Station PRO, Foster Benjamin identified the convict as Wilfred Chafudzika who was found guilty on Friday before Chikwawa Magistrate’s Court.
He is said to have abducted and circumcised 40-year-old Nickson Lamposi.
“The incident occurred on 30 July this year at an initiation camp within Morgen Village in Traditional Authority Katunga in the district.
“Lamposi met his fate as he tried to rescue his son who had fallen into the hands of fortune-seeking
He himself ended up circumcised and held hostage until the following day.
He was set free after a ransom of K7,000 was settled.
The police arrested Chafudzika and three other accomplices.
The three were later acquitted of the act intended to cause grievous harm charge.
In his trial, Chafudzika denied the charge, prompting the state to unleash a five-man witness on him.
He was subsequently found with a case to answer.
The state, through Police Prosecutor Danford Otala, prayed for a harsh sentence, taking into account that the victim had permanently lost his foreskin without his consent.
First Grade Magistrate echoed the state argument, adding that the accused had acted inhumanely and disregarded the right of the victim hence deserving a hefty fine.
He then ordered him to pay a fine of K100, 000 as compensation to the victim.
