Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentary candidate Nancy Tembo has announced she will compete as an independent candidate for Lilongwe South West constituency.

The party recently declared that Mrs Tembo lost a disputed primary election which the party declared Rhino Chiphiko as winner.

But Tembo who claims is still member of the MCP feels the party stole the vote in favor of Chiphiko.

She says she has been compelled to stand by her MCP supporters.

“I am not leaving MCP. I am still MCP but the constituency who include, the youth, women, men, traditional leaders and businessmen have asked me to represent them in Parliament,” said Tembo.

MCP is conducting primaries in all constituency across the country to identify possible candidates to represent the party in the forthcoming 2019 polls.

But the primaries have been marred with violence.
