Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that the High Court has ruled that the Registrar of Political Parties should register the United Transformation Movement (UTM) within 21 days.

The development comes barely two days after the registrar general turned down an application by UTM led by its leader Dr. Saulos Chilima arguing that the movement provided misleading information.

According to a statement seen by faceofmalawi reporter, the office of registrar of political party’s refused the application on grounds that he movement “deliberately” presented registration documents in the name of UTM and not the full name.

“I regret to inform you that I have decided to refuse the registration of UTM as a political party on the ground that the application is not in conformity with the Act in terms of Section 7 (1) as read with Section 18 (a) (i) and (ii) of the Act,” reads in part the statement.

But this did not please UTM, hence filling for court intervention on the matter.

Meanwhile unconfirmed reports indicate that the High Court has overturned the ruling.
