Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has approved a31.8 percent electricity tariff increase on a four-year period (2018-2022), faceofmalawi can reveal.

MERA Board Chair Reverend Joseph Bvumbwe disclosed this in a media briefing currently underway in the commercial capital Blantyre.

According to Bvumbwe, the hike will be done in phases.

“First year: 20 percent, second year: 7 percent. In third year there will be a 3 percent reduction, while in the fourth year, there will be a 10 percent increase,” said Bvumbwe.
