Police in Mchinji have arrested a fellow law enforcer for having a sexual relationship with a teenager and infecting her with HIV virus in the process.
The suspect has been identified as Seargent Gregory Chikuni aged 32 and the victim as Salomy Nyirenda aged 15.
According to reports, the two have been in a sexual relationship from 2017 until 2018.
Facts of the case are that, the Suspect rotationally goes to Mchinji Border for duty. In 2017 when the suspect was assigned to work at the Border, he proposed the victim and have been in an affair which resulted in having unprotected sexual intercourse for several times.
In August 2018, the mother of the victim, Mrs Magret Nyirenda noticed some changes in her daughter as she was also having persistent illnesses.
The mother confronted her daughter and she revealed to have been impregnated by the suspect.
The parents did their best by calling the suspect to inform him of the development and he accepted to have been responsible and promised to come in person for discussions, a thing he failed to fulfill.
On 24/09/2018, the Victim was escorted to Mchinji District Hospital by her mother to start Anternatal formalities and tests conducted revealed she was indeed pregnant and also was diagnosed HIV positive.
This prompted the anger of the mother who made a report at Mchinji Police Station.
Following that, the suspect was arrested and is set to appear in court soon to answer charges of defilement.
Chikuni comes from Kayembe village, T/A Kayembe in Dowa district.
