A 22-year-old man in Nsanje district has hanged himself to death after he was advised to stop smoking Indian hemp locally known as Chamba.
Nsanje police public relations officer, Agnes Zalakoma has identified the deceased as Hazwell Tito who committed the crime on Friday, 05 October at around 1400hrs at Nyamadzele river.
Reports say the deceased was found smoking Chamba and he was later counselled about the dangers of the malpractice and that did not please him.
“Later, he approached a man called Nduzani Winiko for a rope which he was given and left for unknown destination,” said the PRO.
At around 1500hrs of the same day, he was found hanging dead at Nyamadzele River.
Police visited the scene and took the body for a postmortem which revealed the death was due to strangulation.
