Minister of Information and Communication Technology Nicholas Dausi has accused the Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also leader of United Transformation Movement of embarrassing Malawians during Hard Talk interview hosted by Zeinab Badawi aired on Friday at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Chilima granted interview to BBC Hard talk last week and the interview attracted mixed reactions especially those from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who accused the Vice President of going to the interview unprepared.

The sentiments were also shared by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka who described Chilima’s handling of questions as a missed opportunity for him.

Speaking at the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe cultural festival on Sunday at Chonde, Mulanje, Dausi said Chilima embarrassed himself and Malawians by failing to articulate local issues with the BBC.

He said Chilima should have consulted him first as Information minister for some tips before the interview.

“I am the Minister of information and before going outside the country and do interviews consult my office first. This is a disgrace and a sign of mediocrity,” said Dausi.

Reacting to Dausi’s claims UTM’s Secretary General Patricia Kaliati blushed off the accusations, accusing Dausi of going overboard.

Kaliati warned Dausi to stop attacking Chilima.
