There was drama at Kamuzu International Airport on Sunday when police barred supporters of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) from welcoming their leader Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who was in the UK for a holiday.

UTM Secretary General Patricia Kaliati confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

According to Kaliati, the police gave no reason for their actions which she described as “misuse of force and undemocratic.”

She said they are not saddened by the development but rather thrilled as this is an apparent sign of UTM growth.

“We really thank those people who were barring us because they are also campaigning for us. We were looking for massive campaign directors across the country; now we are lucky that we have found some,” she said.

Chilima was in United Kigndom (UK) for a week holiday.

While in the UK, Dr. Chilima held various meetings with the leadership of the Scottish Parliament.

He was also featured in a British Broadcasting Corporation’s Hard Talk show.
